Adm. Rodgers 001 (U.S. Civil War) The Adm. Rodgers 001 refers to a United States Navy ironclad monitor used during the American Civil War. Named after Rear Admiral Samuel DuPont Rodgers, this vessel was part of the U.S. Navy's effort to counter Confederate ironclads like the CSS Virginia. The Monitor-class ships were unique in their design, featuring a low freeboard, flat bottom, and a rotating turret mounted atop the ship that housed two Dahlgren guns. Despite being launched too late for any significant engagements during the Civil War, the Adm. Rodgers 001 was instrumental in the naval battles following the war, such as the Fuzhou Incident of 1874.
