Description:
The great work of Pergolesi at the age of 21, the prodigy who died young! World premiere recording of the complete work for period instruments! Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1719-1736) was a genius of the Neapolitan school of Italian music. Although he showed prodigious talent from an early age, he was afflicted with tuberculosis and died in 1736 at the age of only 26. A few years before his death, he composed this magnificent religious music drama, "The Conversion and Death of St. Guglielmo of Aquitaine," as his graduation work at the Naples Conservatory. At the age of 21 at the time, this work earned Pergolesi great acclaim and would have a major impact on the history of opera in the short time remaining in his life. Despite being one of his turning points, this religious music drama has never been performed or recorded in its entirety, and now it will be performed in its entirety by the Italian period ensemble Ensemble Arlaune and a cast of Italy's most talented singers. The appearance of this world premiere recording of the complete work on period instruments is yet another example of one of Pergolesi's greatest legacies. Tokyo M-Plus
